About

The Canadian Consortium for Health Promotion Research (CCHPR) originated as an association of Canadian university health promotion research centres. The association has since evolved into and is continuing as a corporation without share capital created by letters patent issued by the federal government of Canada.

The CCHPR currently has ten member centres from across Canada representing a wealth of experience in applying health promotion-related research to policy development and practice. Each centre must be affiliated with a university. The CCHPR works in partnership with Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, universities, provincial government Ministries of Health, non-government organizations, community groups and agencies, and other special groups.

The centres are funded in a variety of ways, drawing on health funding agencies as well as other government, non-government and community sources. All centres rely on external research and project grants to bring in additional resources to their groups.

Each member centre nominates a director to the CCHPR. In addition, there is an Executive comprised of a President, a Vice President and a Secretary/Treasurer. Currently, Dr. Marcia Hills, Director of the University of Victoria Centre for Community Health Promotion Research is President of the CCHPR.

The mission of the CCHPR is to enhance health promotion research, policy and practice in Canada through linking research, capacity development and information dissemination. The role of the CCHPR is to support the work of its member centres, provide networking opportunities and information exchange, facilitate new opportunities for collaborative research, advocate for and promote health promotion research in Canada, and serve as a conduit to health promotion expertise and knowledge at a national level.
